✴️ What does Continuous Improvement means to you?

Organizations are focusing on continuous improvement in recent years. Frameworks/ models are getting developed to improve employee performance in workplace. All the business process analyzed to make the system leaner. When the waste is removed from the complete ecosystem of the business processes, the system becomes perfect.

Have we ever thought of implementing continuous improvement in our life? What if we make 1% improvement in our daily life. We all know how the money grows under compound interest. Similarly, if we maintain the 1% compounding improvement in our life, we will see a huge impact. Now here is an important thing, when you are making 1% improvement on the second day, you need to make that improvement on top of the improvement you made on the first day. You need to carry forward all the improvement.

Let's calculate how much improvement we can make in one month.

Assume we start with 1, 1% improvement daily basis. In 30 days 1 will be 1.01^30 =1.3478. Almost 35% improvement.

The above concept came from the 'Marginal Gains' philosophy, which was conceptualized by Sir David John Brailsford, coach of British Cycling team. For British cycling team he came up with an innovative idea that if you broke down everything you could think of that goes into riding a bike, and then improved it by 1%, you will get a significant increase when you put them all together.

As per Sir David, a single improvement might not make great impact. It will be down by other systems very soon. When you combine all the little efforts and give your best - it will make the ultimate impact.

You can read the story of Sir David from the Wikipedia: Dave Brailsford - Wikipedia

Note: There is a recent investigation by World Anti-Doping Agency on the British Cycling team. Let us focus on the marginal gain philosophy only, not the detailed cycling story.
