"Tell me about yourself" -
This year I took lot of interviews. The first question generally I ask is - 'Tell me about yourself'. This is a very simple question, but it actually paves the way how the interview is going to be.
There are lot of suggestion available in internet, you tube videos, and they are easily accessible. But here is my suggestion on how to prepare for the best answer for the above question.
Below is the framework a candidate can use while preparing for this answer -
1. Begin with thanking the interviewer for taking out their time to take the evaluation process
2. Start with your name.
3. Speak about your recent work experience (most recent job at the first and then move to previous work experience). Most of the time interviewer is interested on the last work experience of yours.
4. Try to relate your job experience and key responsibilities with the job role description. Use the keywords which will interest your interviewer. The rest of the interview might follow the keyword which you are using here
5. Don't forget to mention the functional, technical and behavioral skill sets of yours which is required for the job. This is a very important part. 6. Try to focus on the top 3 qualities of each of the previous aspects.
7. If you have done any specific certification regarding the job you are being interviewed, mention it (with one or two lines of description about it, sometimes the interviewer might not be able to understand about the certification with just a name)
8. Close out the interview by saying about how your organization values you.
9. Try to keep the duration of the answer within 2 - 2.5 min. <Unless you have very extensive work experience and lot of companies>
10. At last, don't forget to practice this question before the interview.
Tell me about yourself is a question which is very much dependent on the job description. Based on the job description you need to tailor the answer and update into the above framework.
