In product management we use lot of metrics. Already I have shared information in LinkedIn about North Star Metrics or how to define success metrics. I want to help all the budding product managers on the learning of metrics part.
KPI or metric is so important in product managers life, that sometimes PM spend all day analyzing them. Data driven decision making is one of the primary skillsets of a product manager, and data is coming mainly from KPI or metrics which a PM sets up. Today I will share a wonderful framework of metrics which is very useful for you to manage your product. As Peter Drucker said - "What can be measured, can be managed".
This metrics framework is known as HEART metrics. The acronym stands for - Happiness, Engagements, Adoption, Retention and Task Success. The concerned team will identify goals, signals, and metrics for each of HEART’s five categories. It was developed by a google employee who was a lead UX researcher. This framework focuses on broad measure of user experience. The beautiful thing is the KPIs under each category is not fixed. As per your requirement you can add your metrics in each of the category.
Here are my favorite 2 links to understand about this metrics better -
