Leading a team is not very easy unless you have the right qualities. Every leader has a unique style to lead their teams. Leadership style involves not only the method to create vision, goal, roadmap or strategic planning for successful deliveries, but also to guide, monitor, manage, inspire and motivate the team.
Among the different types of leadership skillset, here is my top 5 picks which has helped me very well in my career journey -
1. Integrity: Good leaders are honest and always have moral principles. It is a very strong quality which is appreciated and respected by all. Work ethics, being transparent to stakeholders - these are very powerful quality.
2. Leading team with example: People are very appreciative and follower when they see that their leader is guiding and leading them with great examples. It is also a great way to motivate and inspire people.
3. Leading without showing authority: Even in today's work culture, teammates don't like if their leader is authoritative/ dictator. Also, a leader not only works within his/her team, but he/she needs to work with other teams as well (internal and external to the organization). At that point of time the authority won't work. A leader should understand the positive outcome when he/she leads teams without authority.
4. Empathy towards team members: The ability to understand and share the feeling of team members plays an important role in a positive work environment. The team members will be very supportive of the leader if they feel that the leader is always supportive of them.
5. Communication: Communication means oral, written and non-verbal communication. This is one of the most important skills on how you engage and manage your stakeholders. More than 50% of the work can be resolved using effective communication.
