I have seen lot of new joiners in the company and most of the time, candidates don't have any plan when they join a new company about what will be the next steps. First few weeks, people are clueless where to start, whom to reach out, how to utilize the time in most effective way.
Here is what I think is the best way to begin the new journey -
1. Get in touch with your manager of the team. Understand more about your role, get the clarity on the responsibilities and deliverables.
2. Become familiar with the product on which you are going to work. Understand different type of features, use cases etc. Try to collect different types of documents available in your new company which might help to understand about the product.
3. Identify the key stakeholders associated with the product. Understand the business vision and objective of the product. Get the current product roadmap and if possible previous roadmaps.
4. Check out the recent releases of the product and understand why they were prioritized.
5. Check out the current release plans and map it to the product roadmap
6. With the help of previous and current roadmap, you will be able to identify the pain points which the product is going to solve. Evaluate the value of each of the business requirement.
7. If possible, do a market analysis and see how your product is valued with compared to competitor's product.
8. Set up a meeting separately with development team and testing team. Remember these are the people who has very detailed knowledge (along with the issues of the product) about the product.
9. Don't forget to think about the customer or the end users. We are developing the product for them only. Look out for possibilities to talk with the end users/ customers. It will help you to understand what customers/users are thinking about your product.
